- Explain the media effects model can be positive or negative and for these say an example of how its positive or negative as this shows the examiner the arguments and counterarguments you're going to use.
Negative effects:
- Moral panic- the media product could create a moral panic if audience members were influenced by the film and consequently commit violent acts.
- Copycat behaviour-
- Anderson- media violence on youth-
Counter-arguments:
- no conclusive evidence that exposure to violence in the media/ video games leads to real life violence
- Theory: uses and gratification- active- audiences 'act' on the media, not the other way round.
- David Gauntlett- audiences are individuals not groups. Audiences can separate real violence and fictional violence.
- Powerful arguments are: factual and news programmes show more violence than fictional content/ films/ video games.
Conclusion:

- Link to the question
- State clearly if I side with arguments or counter-arguments
- 'Discuss' you might say that both sides/ theories and case studies are equally persuasive.
