Preferred Reading- This is when audiences respond to the product the way media producers want/ expect them to.
Negotiated Reading- This is when a member of the audience partly agrees with part of the product. E.g. Film, documentary, TV programme.
Oppositional Reading- This is when the audience is in complete disagreement with the product's message or setting.
1. The Office (U.S) Preferred Reading, the intended purpose of the show is to entertain the audience and make them laugh which I believe has worked. Additionally, the show aims to make you feel emotional at times and this also takes effect.
2. The conjuring. Negotiated Reading, the aim of the movie was to make the audience scared and want to continue watching on the edge of their seat, while this was achieved, it wasn't carried out through the entire movie and therefore didn't have the desired effect.
3. Little Mix, Black Magic music video. Negotiated Reading. The aim of the video was to entertain the audience and relate what was on screen to what had been said in the song, this was ultimately achieved but it wasn't done in the highest quality and therefore didn't have the correct impact on the audience.
